Best equestrian communities in North Texas

An expansive horse property can symbolize freedom and the fruition of your hard work. And for many owners, it is the very reality of living and running an equestrian property. There is a lot of work to be done, but the entire experience can be incredibly rewarding.

Not everyone, however, is cut out to be a horse property owner. It could be that they have plans other than staying full-time and looking after their horses. Maybe all the tasks that come with being an owner are just not their cup of tea.

If you are looking for places where you can enjoy the equestrian lifestyle minus all the work, let us take a look at some of these equestrian communities.

Horsemans Ranch

One of the best known equestrian communities in North Texas is Horsemans Ranch in the town of Whitesboro

Horsemans Ranch encompasses over 360 acres of land. This is divided into five to ten-acre horse and home sites. Weaving in between these sites is a network of riding trails, all of which eventually lead to Horseman Ranch’s own NRS signature indoor arena. This is exclusive to residents and their guests.

The catch is that there is a very limited number of sites available. As of date, Horsemans Ranch can only accommodate a total of 48 land owners.

Bridlewood Farms

Contrary to Horsemans Ranch, Bridlewood Farms in nearby Flower Mound is more of a golf-course community than a neighborhood intended solely for the equestrian lifestyle. That said, Bridlewood Farms does have a state-of-the-art equestrian center called Bridlewood Stables and Equestrian Center.

Bridlewood Stables and Equestrian Center has several amenities. There is a covered riding arena, a therapeutic riding program, and a total of 16 turnouts. The facility also has, under their employ, experienced trainers who have been on the field for over 20 years. Finally, there are over 45 stalls. You can board your horses here and stay in the neighborhood if you please.

Saddlebrook Estates

If horse properties on the smaller side are what you are after, you might find what you are looking for at Saddlebrook Estates in Bartonville, about an hour away from Whitesboro.

But what about open space and riding trails? Similar to Horsemans Ranch, riding trails snake their way throughout Saddlebrook Estates. The neighborhood does not have its own dedicated equestrian center. There is, however, the Saddlebrook Equestrian Center located nearby.

Saddlebrook Equestrian Center offers boarding amenities, which include spacious stalls and private paddocks. Each horse also gets to receive a customized personal care routine. That includes meals tailor-made to their diet specifications and appropriate care during the summer and winter seasons.

If the riding trails within Saddlebrook Estates are too short for you, Saddlebrook Equestrian Center has miles upon miles of riding trails waiting to be explored.

Timberlake Trails

Timberlake Trails is an equestrian community located in Pilot Point. Like Horsemans Ranch, there are only a limited number of lots available here, totaling at 64. The sizes of the lots range from two to five acres, leaving plenty of room for living and outdoor leisure space.

There is a common area at Timberlake Trails where you can find the covered horse arena. For non-equestrian activities, there is the family area and the jungle gym. Being located so close to the Isle du Bois part of Ray Roberts Lake State Park, residents of Timberlake Trails can also enjoy year-round outdoor activities such as fishing and camping.

Steeplechase is conveniently located in Midlothian, just close enough to the bustling Fort Worth-Dallas metropolitan area. It is fascinating how you can watch the city landscape transform into the countryside within a span of 30 minutes.

Aside from a dedicated equestrian center, residents of Steeplechase also have exclusive access to riding, hiking, and biking trails. If they are looking for something else to do, there is also a nearby lake where they can try their hand at fishing.

Pecan Plantation

Pecan Plantation in Granbury is not your typical equestrian community. In addition to horse stables and other equestrian facilities, the neighborhood also boasts impressive country club amenities, golf courses, access to the Brazos River and Lake Granbury, as well as its own commercial center.

Housing options at Pecan Plantation widely vary in style and price. They are all designed and built by Anthony Estate Homes, promising fine quality and craftsmanship.

Fossil Creek Estates

Located in Fort Worth, Fossil Creek Estates brings equestrian living close to the city. The gated equestrian community is composed of small acreage lots. Homes here are generally large and spacious, but all reasonably priced.

Horse amenities at Fossil Creek Estates include an outdoor riding arena for residents as well as a network of riding trails.
